Former city councilman and mayoral candidate Bill Bishop has decided he wants to return to City Hall.
Bishop announced Tuesday that he has filed the paperwork with the Supervisor of Elections to run for City Council, At-Large Group 2.
Bishop will have plenty of time to campaign. The next city election isn’t until 2019.
Bishop was last in the political spotlight in 2015. After failing to make the mayoral runoff, Bishop endorsed former mayor Alvin Brown’s failed re-election bid.
Bishop, a Republican, was asked at the time whether he was betraying the Grand Old Party by endorsing Brown, a Democrat. Bishop said he thought at the time city elections shouldn’t be political.
“My passion for our city is the same as it’s always been. I know how council works and my past experience and leadership brings strength to the council body as a whole, said Bishop in an emailed statement to WJCT News on Tuesday.
Bishop plans to focus on, “responsible use of taxpayers’ dollars, infrastructure, land use and zoning, urban design, transportation and the importance of proper downtown development.”
