A former Jacksonville restaurant assistant manager and two other workers have filed a federal lawsuit against the Jimmy John’s sandwich chain. As first reported by the Jacksonville Business Journal, the suit alleges Jimmy John’s does not pay assistant store managers for working overtime. The Business Journal’s Eric Snider reports lawyers are seeking more assistant managers to join the class action.

"The legal team, which specialized in this type of work, says it’s pretty common practice in the industry, and these lawsuits are pretty common, because the restaurant industry tends to—especially the large chains—they try to figure out ways to cut labor costs," Snider says.

He says the legal team is trying to get a Jacksonville judge to force Jimmy John's to hand over a list of all its assistant managers since 2012. If the suit is successful, workers would be entitled to twice the amount of back pay they’re owed.

Jimmy John's declined to comment in an e-mail to the Business Journal.
