Hot Ticket: Take Your Mamma To Some Drama

Moran Theater

Its mother's day weekend, so take your mamma to some drama.

Opening tonight at Atlantic Beach Experimental Theatre is "On the Verge", directed by Cultural Fusion's own Caryl Butterly. Imagination, language, history and pop culture are celebrated in this play about three Victorian women explorers who set off in 1888 but arrive in America in 1955.

If you are west of the ditch, perhaps take mom to No-i-tan-i-gam-i tonight at the Church of the Good Shepard in Riverside. This insightful children's play is written by Improv to the Rescue's founder Barbara Colaciello. It tackles bored kids obsessed with gadgets, stuffy neighbors, hectic parents and an Architectural Review Committee that is out of control.

Would you like a passport to the world? A key to the vault? Then get a library card! It is all you need for access to our great libraries, e-books and more. And that more is a score with your momma. With a library card you can save 20 percent on MAMMA MIA this mother's day weekend at the Times Union Center for the Performing arts. Take your "Dancing Queen" out and use the savings for a nice bite to eat. Mamma Mia opens tonight and has two shows on Saturday. Use code JPLREADS for your discount.

Maybe you need a quick gift idea because you are one of those hectic parents. Sign mom up for an advance copy of Sweetheart Roller Skating Rink from local photographer Bill Yates. Go to kickstarter.com and search Sweetheart Rollerskating Rink. Mom will love this book that documents a simpler time, when middle schoolers smoked inside and shirts were optional.

Tony Allegretti is is the director of downtown engagement for JAX Chamber.
