For the third year in a row, Forbes Magazine has named Jacksonville one of the top five cities in the nation to find a job.
Job seekers have many openings to choose from in the areas of finance and logistics.
More than 130,000 people have jobs because of the Jacksonville Port Authority.
About 150 people work at the port itself, and tens of thousands more work for the companies that ship goods through here. Shipping is one of the top industries in Jacksonville, contributing to this year’s number-five ranking on Forbes’s list of top cities to get hired.
JaxPort spokeswoman Nancy Rubin says the Forbes ranking reflects the port’s hard work.
Rubin said, “To read the sectors that the article credits with our ranking nationally is very heartening because it ties in with the reason why we work so hard to improve, to grow, and to continually attract more business through this seaport.”
Rubin says this year Volkswagen chose JaxPort as its import facility and southeastern distribution center, which immediately created 100 new job positions. Rubin says now there are more jobs at dealerships.
“So there is a ripple effect of opportunity that comes with having a thriving seaport,” she said.
Other industries seeking new employees in Jacksonville include manufacturing, finance and healthcare.
