St. Augustine Mayor Joe Boles says he "couldn't be more pleased" with the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road Tour and its impact on his city.
The two-day festival brought tens of thousands to the nation's oldest city.
Says Boles, "It could not have gone better. They call the tour 'Gentlemen of the Road,' and everyone associated with the tour were gentlemen in every sense of the word."
Boles says bars and restaurants did gangbuster business during the festival, although he acknowledges some establishments were disappointed with the level of traffic in their shops.
"I think it was a learning experience. In terms of the satellite parking and having realistic expectations of what that audience was going to be interested in, he said.
"For example, hotels and B&B's were sold out within a week of the tour announcing they were coming here. We had visitors from every state in America except South Dakota, and from 20 countries around the world," he told First Coast Connect.
Meanwhile, plans are underway to celebrate the 450th anniversary of St. Augustine's founding in 2015.
"There will be a series of events," says Boles. "For example, in 2014 our focus will be on the city's contribution to the civil rights movement. We're excited about that."
