Florida Division of Elections

A trial is underway right now in Florida that is a proxy for the fight over the balance of political power in the state. The League of Women Voters of Florida is leading the charge in a landmark redistricting trial going on now in Leon County. The league has been joined by a coalition of voter groups to challenge the  congressional map as it was drawn by the Republican-controlled legislature in 2012.

They claim the map violates the fair district clause of the state constitution by giving too much of an advantage to incumbents. The outcome of this court battle is being closely watched.

Deirdre MacNab, president of the League of Women Voters of Florida, and Dr. Marcella Washington, political science professor at Florida State College at Jacksonville joined Melissa Ross to analyze the case thus far and what's at stake for voters and lawmakers.
