This weekend's Springing the Blues Festival is bringing some of the best blues musicians in the world to Jacksonville Beach, but the blues has been a part of the First Coast for a long, long time.

Blues Horizon, WJCT's weekly showcase of the best in classic and modern blues, will air two special programs featuring exclusive tracks and interviews with the artists of the 2014 Springing the Blues Festival.

Blues Horizon host and WJCT producer Andrew Weichman joined Melissa Ross to preview this week's special shows.

Blues Horizon's special Spring the Blues Festival shows will air Friday, April 4, 9-11 p.m. and Saturday, April 5, from 10 p.m.-2 a.m.

You can follow Melissa Ross on Twitter @MelissainJax and Andrew Wiechman @theblueshorizon.

Melissa Ross joined WJCT in 2009 with 20 years of experience in broadcasting, including stints in Cincinnati, Chicago, Orlando and Jacksonville. During her career as a television and radio news anchor and reporter, Melissa has won four regional Emmys for news and feature reporting.
A WJCT staff member since 1996, Blues Horizon host Andrew Wiechman is part of the station’s corporate communications team. A native to Jacksonville, Andrew is active in the local arts scene. A professional musician, experienced actor and photographer, Andrew’s passion for music inspired him to create a show that was artist focused: “I knew this was my opportunity to present radio the way I remember it - full of color and dynamics, with lots of light and shade.” Blues Horizon showcases the best in blues and blues based rock while blending artist interviews and a window into the local scene.
