Meteorologist Tim Deegan sues over photo mix-up
Last year, Action News Jax included a photo of First Coast News Meteorologist Tim Deegan next to an article on their website about a similarly named Gainesville man accused of human trafficking and keeping three women in his home as sex slaves. Deegan has filed a lawsuit claiming defamation of character against Nexstar Broadcasting Group, the parent company of Inergize Digital, which operated Action News' website when the incident occured. Orion scrubbed on Thursday, but hopefully ready to fly Friday
The spacecraft's launched had to be postponed yesterday due to some valves failing to open during countdown, but the problems have been corrected. NASA hopes to launch the first mission of the vehicle that will eventually take humans to Mars on Friday morning at 7:05 a.m., but there is only a 40% of favorable conditions. (News4Jax)
Shad Khan in dispute with another startup
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan has filed a lawsuit against the owners of Edgewood Bakery claiming that he owns the majority of the company through his investment firm, Stache Investments. Edgewood Bakery, although it has been in business for almost 70 years, was bought by Tom and Carol Rykalsky and their business partner, Mike Zimmerman, in 2013 using $800,000 in funds from the investment firm. According to the lawsuit, Khan wants the court to declare that Stache has majority ownership and has the sole right to manage" the bakery over concerns about how the company has been mismanaged. Eureka Gardens residents organize tenants' association
Residents of Eureka Gardens voted Thursday night to form the first tenants' association in an effort to reduce crime in the neighborhood. (News4Jax)
Colorado State's Jim McElwain joining UF as new head coach
After working through a contract buyout plan with Colorado State University, University of Florida announced yesterday that it hired Jim McElwain as head coach to take the place of recently fired coach Will Muschamp. (News4Jax)
