There’s a new army in town, and after a boot camp this weekend, they’ll be trained and ready. Their mission? Taking care of Jacksonville’s foster pets.
Pop Tart is one month old. She’s one of hundreds of kittens who arrive here at Riverside’s Animal Care and Protective Services every spring. It’s the time of year when the shelters are flooded with kittens that need foster care outside of a shelter environment. Last year more than 6,000 kittens showed up here alone.
That’s where the Kitten Army Boot Camp comes in. This hour-long crash course shows new volunteers the basics of fostering kittens.
Volunteer Lindsay Layendecker is the creator and self-proclaimed General of the Kitten Army Boot Camp.
“The reality of the situation is that if you don’t foster them, they’re going to die. That’s the reality. There’s no way the shelter can support this many kittens at this young of an age and so you really, genuinely get to save a life.”
The Boot Camp training session for hopeful foster parents is on Saturday, May 30, at 10 a.m.
