For many, especially women, aging brings with it growing economic insecurity as retirement nears.

Associate Professor of Sociology Mary Gatta, who works at the City University of New York, received a grant to study women's aging into poverty in St. Johns and Duval counties.

She joined us in Studio 5 to discuss her findings and her new book, Waiting on Retirement: Aging and Economic Insecurity in Low-Wage Work.

On Thursday, April 25, the Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women will be hosting Gatta for a presentation from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall, 117 W. Duval St., in the Lynwood Roberts Room.

Going Green

Green Spirits is a new community outreach initiative designed to highlight protecting, preserving and renewing the community’s natural resources.

JoAnn Tredennick, a member of St. John’s Cathedral and a Groundwork Jacksonville board member,  told listeners what inspired her to create Green Spirits along with what she hopes to accomplish.

The 45th Annual Riverside Avondale Preservation Home Tour is scheduled  for this Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, rain or shine.

This year, one of the homes on the tour is part of the tiny homes trend.
