11/6/19: Workplace Diversity & Inclusion; Plastic Straws; Oddball; The Jax Fair

Corporate leaders know having a diverse workforce that stresses inclusion and equity is good for the bottom line. But sometimes getting there is easier said than done.

Tammy Hodo, PhD, CEO of All Things Diverse LLC, joined us to discuss the subject in more detail.

Plastic Straws And Other Issues

A new UNF poll out this week finds most voters in Jacksonville approve of a half-cent sales tax for repairing local school buildings. They were also polled on a number of other topics, including plastic straws, which have become a divisive issue. The poll found 42% would support a ban on single-use plastic straws in restaurants and retail outlets, but 47% oppose it.

Still, many are learning to love their new metal straws, which some people are using in place of paper and plastic straws. That includes our new contributor, First Coast resident and commentator, Mike Favo. He explained why.

Oddball

WJCT’s News Director Jessica Palombo joined us with an update on Oddball, our latest podcast. It’s a story about a UFO investigation, a mansion in the woods and how one shiny object sent a Jacksonville, Florida family into hiding.

Host and producer Lindsey Kilbride dives deeper into the 1974 mystery of the "Betz sphere” and several  episodea of the series are now available.

The Fair Is Back

The Greater Jacksonville Agricultural Fair kicks off Thursday. It will have rides, concerts, treats and more! Gayle Hart, the Fair’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, joined us with a preview.
