Grocery Wars; Heart Month; Romance Scams; Around Town

Native Sun
Native Sun and its staff are prepping for the Jacksonville Beach store's reopening on Wednesday.

A dizzying array of grocery stores all around town are opening and closing.

There’s so much change going on with the grocery sector as stores open and close it’s hard to keep up.

Where do you buy your groceries? That’s the question we asked as we track the grocery wars. We welcomed Timothy Gibbons, Editor of the Jacksonville Business Journal, to tell more. One local grocery affected by is Native Sun, which closed last year and is now reopening its Jacksonville Beach location.

Owner and CEO Aaron Gottlieb joined us to tell us more.

Heart Month

Cardiovascular diseases claim the lives of one in three women. Yet 80% of these cases could be prevented through education and healthy lifestyle changes such as moving more, eating smart and managing blood pressure. Dr. Mona Shah, a cardiologist with Baptist Heart Specialists explained as we mark Heart Month.

 Romance Scams

Credit Jax Federal Credit Union

Florida already has one of the nation’s highest rates of fraud. During this season of love First Coast residents should be alert to the growing risk of romance scams.

Joe Nowland with Jax Federal Credit Union gave us  some tips on how to protect yourself. According to the Federal Trade Commission, the median loss reported from these types of scams is $2,600 and for individuals over the age of 70, it’s $10,000.

Don't Toss It. Shred It.

Jax Federal Credit Union's first shred day of 2020 is this Saturday at 562 Park Street right near Five Points.  Nowland also addressed this topic.
