Firefighters and COVID-19

Three Jacksonville firefighters recently tested positive for COVID 19, with others self-isolating.

Randy Wyse, President of the Jacksonville Association of Fire Fighters and Mark Treglio, Assistant to the General President for Strategic Campaigns, Communications at the International Association of Fire Fighters(IAFF) and a former Jacksonville firefighter;  joined us for a closer look at how firefighters are faring during the pandemic.

Domestic Violence

As the coronavirus crisis drags on, and people are continuing to stay at home, those in abusive situationsliterally have nowhere to turn right now. Sometimes they can’t even find the privacy to call a domestic violence hotline. Hubbard House in Jacksonville now has another option. People can now text them if they need help. We spoke with Hubbard House CEO Gail Patin. The Hubbard House can be reached by texting to (904) 210-3698 or through a hotline at (904) 354-3114.

Feed Our Healthcare Heroes

Feed Our Healthcare Heroes is a community-wide effort to provide meals to healthcare workers at hospitals serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses and members of the community are encouraged to participate.

Fadi Chakour, a medical doctor and now attorney at the Terrell Hogan law firm, created the program and joined us to tell more. Law firms, businesses or individuals who would like to help by buying meals for healthcare workers may contact Laura Hack at (904) 910-2401 or visit the Feed Our Healthcare Heroes Facebook page.

Virtual Book Club

Now is the perfect time to read a great book at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stacey Goldring, our virtual book club leader, joined us with some suggestions. She recommended books such as I Remember Nothing by Nora Ephron and Hotel Du Lac by Anita Brookner.
