Educators, parents and students in Northeast Florida are scrambling to figure out what school will look like when it starts back up for some in August.
Duval County Public Schools announced Tuesday a revised back-to-school plan that takes into account what the district is calling the “fluid conditions” caused by COVID-19 as well as new state requirements.
But, teachers across the state say they’re very worried about going back to school. Gregory Sampson, a high school geometry teacher in Jacksonville who blogs about education issues; and Alex Ingram, a civics, government and economics teacher at Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts, joined us to discuss their concerns.

Donna’s Law
A measure that eliminates the statute of limitations in Florida for sexual assault against minors was signed into law last month by Governor Ron DeSantis. The bill was nicknamed “Donna’s Law” after Orlando resident Donna Hedrick, an alleged victim of sexual abuse by a former high school teacher in the early 1970s.
The law eliminates the statute of limitations for sexual assault against minors (for offenses committed after its effective date), which is meant to prevent what happened in Hedrick's case. We spoke about the impact of Donna’s Law with Mary Marx, CEO of the Pace Center for Girls.
Folio 2.0
The first print issue of Folio Weekly 2.0 hits newsstands Wednesday. The alt weekly ceased publication when the pandemic hit, but it’s been revived. Attorney and new publisher John Phillips; along with writer Nikesha Williams, who penned the publication’s cover story, joined us with a preview.
