Thousands of children across the First Coast are learning remotely on Duval Homeroom, the Duval County Public Schools virtual learning platform. However, some are concerned that it could come to an end in January.
This, as Clay County’s second school official died of COVID-19. In St. Johns County, school-based students cannot transition to virtual learning any longer.

First Coast Farming
Farmers across the First Coast are no longer confined to large parcels of land. A rise in agriculture in the Urban Core supports the growing farm-to-table movement and strong community enthusiasm for agriculture in Northeast Florida.
The Duval County Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a panel discussion and virtual market called Start Farming! Tuesday, Nov. 17. District Vice Chairman Jennifer Casey told us more.
Emerald Trail
The Emerald Trail is going to be a walkable, bikeable green belt that will transform Jacksonville’s urban core. It will link together 16 schools, two colleges, and 21 parks among other attractions like restaurants, retail, and businesses. The first segment has an expected completion date of early 2022.
Groundwork Jacksonville created the concept for the Emerald Trail and is bringing it to life. This weekend, a 5K is set in Jacksonville to benefit the project.
Kay Ehas, CEO of Groundwork Jacksonville, joined us to tell us about the project along with Amanda Crawford, who is the VP of Community Engagement & Sponsorship at VyStar Credit Union, a sponsor of the project.
St. Johns Riverkeeper Oyster Roast
This year, the St. Johns Riverkeeper’s beloved Annual Oyster Roast will look a bit different due to the pandemic. Participants can still enjoy the affair from the comfort and safety of their cars. Jimmy Orth, with the St Johns Riverkeeper told us how.
