The Jacksonville Jazz Festival, the inaugural concert at Daily’s Place amphitheater and a Jumbo Shrimp home stand at the baseball grounds will make getting around downtown more difficult than usual this Memorial Day weekend.
Downtown, portions of Adams, Laura, Duval and Monroe streets are already closed to traffic and they’ll remain off limits through Sunday.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is advising people heading to the Jazz Festival to use the Main Street and Acosta bridges. People going to the sports complex should take the Hart or Mathews Bridge.
JSO Chief Leonard Proper says security is a top priority this weekend and he urges everyone to keep their cool and do their part.
“Anybody that sees anything that looks suspicious, that looks creepy, that just doesn’t look right, you tell somebody and we’ll check it out," he said. "We don’t want anything bad to happen, and we need your help to make sure that doesn’t happen.”
Proper says road closures and detours can be found at the Sheriff's Office website.
