JTA Bus Driver Tests Positive For COVID-19

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority said Thursday one of its bus operators has tested positive for COVID-19.

The driver has been quarantined and is receiving medical care.

The JTA informed WJCT News that the operator had driven the following routes over the past week:

April 13: Route 22 (Avenue B) and 3 (Moncrief)

  • Bus 2213 from 6:21 a.m. – 6:55 a.m.
  • Bus 2608 from 7:25 a.m. – 1:51 p.m. 

April 14: Route 26 (Argyle Forest/Buckman) and 28 (Southside/Sunbeam)

  • Bus 2604 from 6:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. 

April 15:  Route 22 (Avenue B) and 3 (Moncrief) 

  • Bus 2213 from 6:21 a.m. – 1:51 p.m.

JTA is not releasing the driver’s name to protect the employee’s privacy.
The transit agency has been following additional safety precautions to minimize the risk to the public and its staff.

JTA said its staff continues to wear personal protective equipment when working. Modified schedules and reduced capacity on JTA buses also remain in effect.

The transit agency has been blocking off up to 18 seats per vehicle to increase and encourage social distancing.

Extra buses are also being used on routes, as needed, to prevent crowding and minimize delays.
