The Jaxson: Evergreen Cemetery Walking Tour Is This Sunday

The Jaxson

Just in time for Halloween, The Jaxson invites you to Evergreen Cemetery on Jacksonville’s Northside, one of the oldest continuously operating graveyards in Northeast Florida.

Visitors can find local luminaries who shaped the Jacksonville we know today, including city founder Isaiah Hart.  And beyond the eclectic cast of characters buried there, the cemetery is significant from the perspectives of city planning, architecture and landscaping. Part of the mid-19th Century rural cemetery movement, Evergreen was several miles outside of town when it opened with a train station on site in the late 1800s. Today its varied vegetation and uncommon features for a Southern cemetery make it worth a visit.

Register for a two-hour walking tour of Evergreen Cemetery as only The Jaxson can tell it, this Sunday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m.  A second tour time may be added if the 11 a.m. one sells out.
