People Over Profits Seeks To Make Florida Voting Easier With 3 Amendments

DAYLINA MILLER / WUSF PUBLIC MEDIA
Sean Shaw is the founder Of People Over Profit.

An effort to make it easier to vote in Florida is underway following the state’s tightening of its voting rules this year.

Former Democratic state Representative Sean Shaw has launched an initiative called People Over Profits to push three state constitutional amendments.

The amendments would:

  • Automatically register Floridians to vote when they renew their driver’s license.
  • Allow Floridians to register to vote at any polling place during early voting.
  • Undo a 2019 requirement that ex-felons pay off court-ordered fees and restitution before voting.

During an appearance on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross on Monday Shaw said:

“None of these proposals are particularly earth shattering, or they're certainly not partisan. Taken together, they will add over a million new voters to the rolls. So these are, I think, common sense.”

The full interview with Shaw is available now on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross. It will also encore at 8 p.m. on WJCT News 89.9.
