Orange Park Medical Center announced Tuesday its planning to build a $14.4 million emergency center in Southwest Clay County.

The 10,820-square-feet facility will have 11 patient rooms and on-site imaging and lab services. Orange Park purchased 4.6 acres at the crossroads of Blanding Boulevard and Everett Avenue in March for the project.

Orange Park decided to build the new emergency center because of the success of its other two standalone emergency rooms (ERs) said Emergency Services Medical Director Dr. Steven Goodfriend in an email sent to WJCT News. Those two ERs, Park West ER and Normandy Park ER, treated about 60,000 patients in 2020.

“By bringing this new ER to the Middleburg area, we’ll be able to meet the community’s growing need with the same high level of care that we offer at our main hospital,” Goodfriend said.

Construction on the new ER is expected to begin in Spring 2022.
