COVID-19 Death Toll Reaches 2,237 Among Duval County Residents

The latest wave of COVID-19 infections has raised the death toll among Duval County residents to 2,237 since the pandemic began in 2020 and unleashed yet another surge in cases this summer.

The Florida Department of Health in Duval County gave a Jacksonville City Council committee the update Tuesday during the department's regular briefings on the COVID-19 virus.

The state Department of Health stopped providing daily reports showing county-level data on deaths in early June when cases had fallen sharply. The local department's updates to City Council have given a rare insight into the life-and-death impact of the virus.
