TEDxJacksonville has announced its lineup of speakers and musical performers for this year’s event, which is being held for the first time at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.
“Embrace,” as this year’s conference is being called, is scheduled for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23.
The conference, which is now in its 10th year, will feature talks from eight speakers:
- Deyona Burton, Jacksonville: What’s In A Name? Insights Into Renaming Efforts At Jacksonville Schools
- Dawn Emerick, EdD, Jacksonville: America’s Workplace Mental Health Crisis
- Nicol Headley, Jacksonville: Violence Is Not Inevitable
- Delaney Liskey, Virginia Beach: Building Patient Research Partners
- Michelle Ramos, JD, PhD, New Orleans: Philanthropy Must Be Decolonized
- Vishavjit Singh, New York City: Changing The World One Story At A Time
- LaTonya Summers, PhD, Jacksonville: Know Pain, Know Gain
- Sara Ting, Boston: Advancing Equity Through The Arts
The event will also feature two live musical performances from Jacksonville-based artists Bronero, a solo electronic musician who fuses hip-hop and jazz, and Good Pluck Trio (GPT), a group that performs a variety of genres ranging from classical to jazz to pop.
Those attending in person will be required to wear masks, whether they’re vaccinated or not, and seating will be socially distanced with the audience limited to 250 attendees — half of the Terry Theater’s capacity. There will also be more than 50 air filters throughout the building that will be checked and changed regularly, and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the lobby. A virtual viewing experience is also being offered.
“The opportunity to return to a live event is one we’ve taken with care. That’s why we’re offering live tickets and a fully virtual ticket for attendees for the first time,” Sabeen Perwaiz, TEDxJacksonville organizer and executive producer, said in an email to WJCT News. “We’re excited for these speakers and the expertise they’re bringing to our stage and a TEDx audience around the world.”
In-person tickets are $99 and virtual tickets are $59. Student tickets are $79 (in-person) and $39 (virtual). Those attending in person can also add on lunch from The Bread & Board for $15.
