People living near Naval Station Mayport may hear gunfire coming from the base next week, but the Navy says not to worry.
The noise and increased activity are part of a security exercise designed to strengthen Mayport’s threat response.
The base-wide exercise is scheduled to run from Monday, Sept. 20, through Friday, Sept. 24.
Exercise coordinators have taken measures to minimize disruptions to normal base operations and to those who live near the base.
