A patient was admitted to Baptist Medical Center Monday morning after having contact with a West Africa traveler with flu-like symptoms, but no fever. According to Dr. Mobeen Rathore, an infectious disease specialist at Baptist Health, the patient does not have Ebola under CDC guidelines.
"We have decided that at this point in time, this patient does not meet the criteria for Ebola," said Rathore.
Rathore said Baptist Health has a specific system for dealing with issues like Ebola.
"We are very confident that our staff is qualified and very committed to following those processes," he said. "If we follow those processes, we are very confident that we are in very good shape."
Rathore said that Baptist Health is extremely proud of their staff for handling today in accordance to their protocol regarding Ebola.
According to Rathore, the likelihood of someone contracting Ebola in Jacksonville right now is low.
