A popular Jacksonville Beach bowling alley will be reopening.
The Board of Adjustments for Jacksonville Beach has approved a $7.5 million renovation and expansion of the iconic Beach Bowl, which had been around since 1958.
The Beach Boulevard bowling alley closed abruptly 2-years ago when the property owners didn’t renew the lease.
The original Beach Bowl sign will be restored and improved. This time around, it will also include a restaurant with rooftop dining.
Jacksonville Beach City Councilman Dan Janson said that Beach Bowl developer Ash Properties has promised a re-engineered parking lot and green space. A timeline for the project wasn't immediately available.
Janson told WJCT News Thursday that after a few stagnant years, Jacksonville Beach is undergoing a rebirth.
“About the same time we had the old Campeche Bay and Urban Flats taken down and we’re starting the rebuild in our town center … and with the news of the Beach Bowl, I think everybody’s really, really excited about the direction of Jacksonville Beach.”
The Jacksonville Beach Town Center two-story mixed-use project that Janson referenced is being developed on First Ave. N. Demolition is underway at the site, which is across from Latham Plaza.
The$50 million Margaritaville Hotelalso opened in Jacksonville Beach last week.
