Ed White High School on Jacksonville's Westside is the third Duval County public school to announce it is shifting to online learning since the start of the school year due to COVID-19.
Duval County Public Schools announced Wednesday afternoon that the transition will be Thursday, Sept. 2, in fifth period, because of the A-B schedule.
The current plan calls for Ed White students to return to the classroom on Sept. 9.
The brick-and-mortar closure also means all extracurricular activities, including athletics and arts events, are suspended until Sept. 9.
Any students who don't have their school technology at home should call the school Thursday. The district said Ed White High School's staff is making arrangements to make sure everyone can connect to online instruction.
At least 41 students and two staff members at Ed White High School have tested positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the school year, according to the district's COVID-19 dashboard. At least 1,620 cases have been confirmed districtwide since the first day of school among 1,431 students and 189 staff members.
Last week Fletcher Middle School in Neptune Beach and Baldwin Middle-High School in Baldwin switched to virtual learning due to coronavirus outbreaks.
For a school to close locally, at least 20% of the student and staff population has to be impacted, according to WJCT News partner The Florida Times-Union.
