First Coast Gets Back To Business: Agencies, Schools Announce Reopening Plans

Schools will be back in session soon and county agencies announced when they'd start operating again after Hurricane Dorian.

Here’s a list of the reopening plans we have received from across the First Coast:  

Jacksonville city offices will reopen Thursday and Duval County Public Schools will reopen Friday. See this story for additional details.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) will resume normal transit operations Thursday morning as scheduled. The St. Johns Ferry returns to service Thursday afternoon with free trips until 7 p.m. Thursday.

The following Clay County government offices are reopening Thursday:

  • Clay County Administrative Offices
  • Clay County Tax Collector
  • Clay County Property Appraiser
  • Clay County Supervisor of Elections
  • Clay County Sheriff’s Office
  • Clay County Public Libraries

The Clay County Courthouse and the Clerk’s Offices will remain closed Thursday, September 5 with plans to reopen Friday, September 6. Those with court dates September 3 – 5 will be contacted via mail about reset dates and times.

The Clay County Animal Shelter will reopen to the public Saturday, September 7.  If you want to pick up your pet, you may come to the shelter Thursday,  September 5 or Friday, September 6 between 10 am and 2 pm.

Clay County schools will remain closed Thursday. At last report, the county had not announced a reopening time for schools.

St. Johns County has rescinded its curfew and evacuation orders, while also announcing government offices and schools will reopen Friday.

All City of St. Augustine offices will reopen Friday at 8 a.m. 

The St. Augustine public budget meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, September 5, will be rescheduled. For updates and information, visit the city’s website at www.CityStAug.com.

Naval Air Station Jacksonville expects its airfield to reopen at noon on Thursday.  Limited services will be open aboard the station at noon, including Morale, Welfare and Recreation food and beverage locations and the gym. The Navy Exchange and Commissary will reopen at 2 p.m., Thursday.

The Child Development Center and Youth Activities Center will remain closed on Thursday and will reopen on Friday morning. All normal operations at NAS Jacksonville will resume by noon on Friday, Sept. 6.

Florida State College at Jacksonville will reopen Friday.

Glynn County, Ga. schools will reopen Friday on a regular schedule. However, the Brunswick High School vs. McIntosh County football game has been rescheduled for Septemer 13, at 7:30 p.m., and the Glynn Academy at Groves football game, originally scheduled for Friday, has been canceled.  All other middle and high school athletic and extracrricular actives will resume Monday, September 9.

The Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens reopens Friday. Saturday admission will be free since it's one of the museum's Weaver First Saturday Free For All monthly events.
