Capital Report: March 26, 2025

Legislation allowing college students to carry guns on Florida campuses was voted down this week. Adrian Andrews reports, the vote came after several college students made impassioned pleas in committee.

More than 26,000 unaccompanied children have come from other countries and are now in the U.S. These kids count on lawyers, like those who work for the International Rescue Committee, or IRC, to help them make their lives here. But as Margie Menzel reports, the Trump Administration has cut off funding for the IRC’s ability to represent those children, leaving the future of those who are currently in Florida in question.

Bills making their way through the Florida Legislature would make it easier to destroy wetlands -- the same wetlands that help clean water and protect residents from hurricanes and flooding. WLRN’s Jenny Staletovich reports.

Workers-in-training would be exempt from the Florida minimum wage under a bill moving forward in the Florida Legislature.

The two Democrats in Florida’s Congressional special elections next month have out raised their Republican opponents by more than five to one. But Tristan Wood reports that number is deceptively large, because millions of those dollars were paid to a political consultant responsible for digital fundraising.
