Alyx Carrasquel, center, is the intake coordinator at the Florida Access Network. She was one of the estimated 2,000 people who attended an abortion rights rally in front of the Duval County Courthouse on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.

In response to the leaked Supreme Court draft overturning Roe v. Wade, Florida Access Network and Women’s March Jacksonville will hold a rally this Saturday at the downtown Duval County Courthouse. The Supreme Court makes their official decision on abortion rights in June. Many states have prepared trigger laws that could ban abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

Guest: Alyx Carrasquel, Florida Access Network.

North Florida Hispanic community

If you’re Hispanic and live in North Florida, The Jacksonville Historic Society wants to give you a chance to share your history. Monday, May 16, the Jacksonville Historical Society will ask those interested to record a narrative as part of the Voces De Hispanos oral history project. This new phase is called “More Stories To Tell.”

Guest: Dr. Rebecca Dominguez-Karimi, oral historian with the Florida Humanities Council.

“A Brush with Nature”

The Jacksonville Arboretum & Botanical Gardens in partnership with First Coast Plein Air Painters will host its 12th-annual community fundraiser, “A Brush with Nature,” Friday through Sunday. The goal is to raise money for needed infrastructure projects throughout the nature preserve.

Guest: Dana Doody, executive director.
