Future of health care; veterans in the classroom; voting by phone; the shroom boom

Medicine has been at the heart of many of the nation's latest cultural wars, from COVID-19 vaccines to gender affirming care.

On many of these topics, the medical community has found itself at odds with politicians and people who spread medical misinformation. Many physicians took issue this week with Florida's surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, who issued guidance advising against COVID-19 mRNA vaccines for men ages 18 to 39.

Such issues will be in the spotlight this week during the Future of Health Care Conference in Jacksonville. Dr. Jack Resneck Jr., president of the American Medical Association, joined us to talk about it.

Veterans in the classroom

The University of North Florida is taking part in a new initiative to address the state’s teacher shortage.

The school has created a Veterans to Teachers program that is enrolling veterans wishing to gain graduate-level teaching certificates.

Voting by phone

Election Day is less than a month away. And given all the election-related issues over the past few years, one group is advocating to use technology to give greater control directly to voters — especially in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. That could include the possibility of voting on our mobile phones.
