Friday Media Roundtable; Mandarin history museum

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts

Our Friday Media Roundtable highlighted the week’s most important issues — from Community Conversations with Mayor Donna Deegan to the controversy surrounding the Duval County Jail.

Joining us were Claire Heddles ofJacksonville Today, Claire Goforth of The Daily Dot, Hanna Holthaus of the Florida Times Union and Will Brown of Jacksonville Today.

Among the topics:

  • Mayor Donna Deegan announced the dates of her much-anticipated Community Conversations, the first to occur Aug. 3 at the Mandarin Community Center.
  • The Jacksonville City Council will have its own representative for Jaguar stadium negotiations, which the city says are expected to begin next month.
  • Four Seasons confirmed that the chain is building a hotel here.
  • The controversy over the state’s new Black History academic standards are hitting home for Floridians but also people all across the country. State Rep. Kim Daniels issued a cease and desist order to fellow state state Rep. Angie Nixon on Thursday.
  • Former Duval Schools Superintendent Diana Greene got a new job as CEO of a national anti-racist literacy nonprofit.

Mandarin Museum & Historical Society

The Mandarin Museum and Historical Society is reopening its doors to the public Saturday August 5th.

Brittany Cohil, executive director of the museum, joined us with a preview.
