Jacksonville has 22 miles of beaches, including this stretch of surf and sand near the Jacksonville Beach Pier.

Today we discuss the week's biggest headlines with our team of local news pundits on First Coast Week in Review.

Among our topics:

  • Residents are worried about the plan to enlarge the Duval County jail, fearing it could lead to more people being incarcerated. We discuss a new committee formed to assess the jail’s needs and how the project has prompted a bigger discussion about incarceration and mental health.
  • Amid spring break and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations last Sunday, shootings at Jacksonville Beach killed one person and wounded three more. The event has sparked discussions about the safety of Beaches residents.
  • The criminal case against former JEA executives has ended, and the federal prosecutor confirmed that no additional charges will be brought. However, our discussion highlights how individuals, even if not directly involved in criminal activities, contributed to a culture of silence that allowed this behavior to occur.
  • We also look into a recent interaction on social media between City Council members Rory Diamond and Jimmy Peluso.

Our panel:

  • David Bauerlein, metro reporter with the Florida Times Union.
  • Will Brown, reporter for Jacksonville Today.
  • Tricia Booker, journalism professor at the University of North Florida.
  • Jack Webb, attorney and former City Council president.
