Former JEA CEO Aaron Zahn is sentenced

Stacey Bennett

Five years after the city began its (most recent) failed effort to sell JEA, the utility’s former CEO is sentenced in his federal criminal case. Three journalists who’ve covered the story from its earliest days — and whose reporting was key to our understanding of Aaron Zahn’s attempt to defraud ratepayers — join us to reflect on the process and resulting punishment.

Guests:

  • Nate Monroe, metro columnist at the Florida Times-Union.
  • Mark Woods, columnist at the Florida Times-Union.
  • David Bauerlein, metro reporter at the Florida Times-Union.

Then, two Democrats battle it out for the Florida State House District 13 seat. As part of our continuing primary election coverage, we talk with former City Council member Brenda Priestly Jackson about why she’s challenging incumbent Rep. Angie Nixon. (Nixon will appear on FCC on Aug. 8.)

Plus, our resident “spaceman” returns to our orbit to tell us about the T Coronae Borealis, nicknamed the Blaze Star. The recurrent nova, which flares up only every 80 years, is expected in our skies soon.
