On Monday’s show: Industrial controversy in Fernandina Beach

A citizen petition to halt a controversial industrial project in the center of Fernandina Beach was withdrawn last week under the threat of financial penalties. Two opponents of the proposed RYAM bioethanol plant join us with an update on a story we first covered June 13: Controversy in a Small Town.

Guests:

  • Medardo Monzon, chemist and former president of the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
  • Tom Budd, petitioner of record in a citizen challenge of RYAM’s proposed bioethanol plant.

Then, she’s made the race for U.S. Senate uncomfortably close for the incumbent. As part of our election coverage, we ask Democratic Senate contender Debbie Mucarsel-Powell about why she’s challenging Republican Sen. Rick Scott. She also answers your questions at (904) 549-2937 and firstcoastconnect@wjct.org.

Guest:

  • Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, candidate for U.S. Senate.

And, the Eagles are on a three-week winning streak as they face the Jaguars in Philadelphia on Sunday. Will the Jags break their own losing streak and pull off an upset? News4Jax sportscaster Alessandra Pontbriand joins us with a postgame wrap.
