Each Friday, our media roundtable dives into the biggest stories of the week. Among our topics:
- Doctors’ version of a recent jail death differs from JSO’s.
- Bears are in the crosshairs after Florida’s first-ever fatal attack on a human.
- The state attorney is investigating an allegedly illegal city gun registry.
- School officials police social media for teachers, but spare themselves similar scrutiny.
- Jax Beach joins its coastal neighbors in banning all types of smoking.
To discuss it all, we’re joined by:
- Nate Monroe, executive editor at The Tributary.
- Jack Webb, attorney and former Jacksonville City Council president.
- Aaron Farrar, weekend anchor and reporter at News4Jax.
Then, Apex Theatre is holding its inaugural playwrights festival, presenting new works by rising (and established) local talents. The Red Moon New Works Festival features readings and workshop productions created by professional playwrights, teaching artists and student writers at the Black Box theater in World Golf Village from May 16 to 18. The performance is free.
Guests:
- Ian Mairs, director, playwright at Apex since 2013 and author of Family, Friends and Neighbors: A Year in the Life of an Urban Church Food Pantry.
- Deidra, writing program student at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts.
- Peyton, student at Apex Theatre Studio.
