Now that both the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Georgia Bulldogs are in town, the 2014 Gator Bowl and related events can get underway.While ticket sales are reported to be below normal this year, there are still many events scheduled. Tuesday, the Coaches Luncheon will be held at the Prime Osborn Center at noon.
The luncheon includes special recognition for retiring NCAA Vice President and former Missouri head coach Dennis Pope. Pope’s Tigers upset Alabama in the 1968 Gator Bowl.
Former Jacksonville Jaguar Donovan Darius, who played and won with Syracuse in the 1996 Gator Bowl will also be honored.
The annual Vystar 5K run to raise money for Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital begins at one at the Landing running along Riverside Avenue and the Northbank.
The Nebraska team rally at the Landing at 2 p.m. on Tuesday followed by the Georgia rally at 5.
The annual Gator Bowl Parade begins at three on Bay Street near A. Phillip Randolph and heads west to near the Prime Osborn on Water Street.
Most events require tickets but the parade and Landing rallies are free, as is the New Year’s Eve midnight fireworks display on the St. Johns River downtown.
On game day there are two ticketed rallies in the morning at EverBank Field.
Kickoff of the 2014 Gator Bowl is Wednesday at noon.
