There is a brand new state of the art entertainment system for your car with your iPhone at it's core.Apple’s new CarPlay system will link the iPhone with a car's in-dash display. It’s making its first appearance this week at the Geneva International Motor Show.
In this week’s Tech Tuesday segment, Joey Marchy sat down with Melissa Ross to discuss the unveiling of Apple's new CarPlay system.
“What Apple is releasing is a more integrated way for you to access items on your iPhone through your car,” Marchy said.
“What it is, is it gives you a certain subset of some of the things that your familiar with using your iPhone or iOS devices like maps, messaging, phone, music and it’s a very kind of limited set of interaction for now.”
Marchy said that some of the vehicles that will have this new feature in 2014 are luxury cars like Ferrari, Jaguar, and Mercedes, but it will also be available for more consumer oriented cars like Honda, Hyundai and Volvo.
“Hopefully it will bring some new interesting applications to your car,” he said.
“Think about not only music but what about apps that help you drive safer or apps that help you conserve fuel or can tell you when a gas station is coming up. It knows when your low on fuel and it’ll tell you where the next gas station is and what the best prices are.”
“There are 80 million vehicles released and sold every year so Apple knows that this is a huge opportunity and a huge market to get into,” he said.
Marchy said that after 2014 almost every other big name automobile manufacturer will be providing this service to consumers.
