University of North Florida Professor Keith Ashley and his students are excavating at Big Talbot Island in  the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve with the goal of finding evidence of an ancient Native American village. Not much is known about the place called Sarabay, which Europeans documented in the 1500s.

The Timucuan Parks Foundation is teaming up with virtual-reality company VR DREAMZ to bring Jacksonville’s parks to hospital-bound children.

The pair will launch the plan with a demonstration of the technology next Tuesday evening at the Museum of Science and History.

North Florida Land Trust

The North Florida Land Trust conservation group has secured funding to purchase 63 acres of land to turn into a public park bordering the Timucuan Ecological area.

Two anonymous donors helped clear the $1 million bar to buying what’s called the Bogey Creek Preserve.

WJCT presents a collaboration between the University of North Florida's Environmental Center and Public Trust Environmental Legal Institute of Florida on 19 short videos showcasing the city, state and national parks of the First Coast, produced by Sean Lahav, a project leader in the environmental leadership program.

State attorney-elect Melissa Nelson ousted incumbent Angela Corey in a landslide last month. On Monday she joined Melissa Ross to talk about the transition and what we can expect from her office when she takes over in January. We also heard from Dr. Nima Aghaebrahim from Baptist Health about recent progress in the treatment of aneurysms. Jon Heymann, CEO of the Jacksonville Children’s Commission, talked about programs available to local youth and the Timucuan Parks Foundation told us about a fundraiser to mark the centennial of the National Parks Service.
