Persistent onshore winds and high astronomical tides are likely to cause areas of coastal flooding for the rest of the week, particularly along Florida’s First Coast.
The difference in pressure between a high near the New England coast and a developing low pressure in the eastern Gulf of Mexico will create winds that push water from the Atlantic on to the coast. The National Weather Service has issued Coastal Flood Warnings for Nassau, Duval, St. Johns, and Flagler counties Wednesday, and for the St. Johns River in Clay and Putnam counties. Widespread minor to locally moderate coastal flooding is anticipated, particularly near the times of high tide.
In their early morning forecast discussion, the National Weather Service says it is likely to issue additional Coastal Flood Advisories for the remainder of the week. They say minor coastal flooding along the Northeast Florida coastline and near the St. Johns River Basin is expected around the times of the daytime high tide cycles.
