11/3/2016: Ken Babby; North Florida Land Trust

On First Coast Connect Thursday we spoke with the owner of Jacksonville’s minor league baseball team Ken Babby about the team’s controversial name change. We also spoke with North Florida Land Trust Executive Director Jim McCarthy about a way landowners can receive an additional tax deduction for 2016.

Ken Babby

Owner Ken Babby surprised many in Jacksonville on Wednesday when he announced he was changing the name of the city’s Class AA minor league baseball team from the Suns to the Jumbo Shrimp. The announcement brought mixed reaction from across the First Coast and on social media. Babby said he still honors the tradition of Suns baseball but the change is about developing a new brand and having fun at the ballpark.

North Florida Land Trust

North Florida Land Trust is urging landowners to act now in order to preserve their land and receive a tax deduction in 2016.

The trust is asking farmers, ranchers and large landowners to consider the donation of a conservation easement to receive the significant tax break and preserve the land for future generations. The deal must be in place before December 31 in order for the tax deduction to be included in the 2016 taxes.
