New Town's Low-Income Families To Receive More State Assistance

New Town Success Zone

Low-income families living in Jacksonville’s New Town Success zone are getting a state cash infusion after Governor Rick Scott signed off Tuesday on close to $1 million for the community project.

For the families living in the New Town Success Zone in Northwest Jacksonville, $850,000 could go a long way to helping them rise above poverty.

The money is extra funding for the Florida Children’s Initiative to help fund programs, including prenatal services, daycare and matching parents with various federal assistance programs at New Town and two other communities in the state. More than half the families in New Town make less than $20,000 a year.

The Success Zone is a partnership between the city of Jacksonville, Edward Waters College and various local nonprofits that aim to support children’s intellectual, emotional and physical growth.
