Jacksonville Republican State Representative and congressional candidate Lake Ray is endorsing Donald Trump for president.

After Trump’s win in Indiana Tuesday night and Ohio Gov. John Kasich suspended his campaign Wednesday, Ray says Trump is the inevitable nominee.

Ray, who Tuesday announced he was running for the soon-to-be vacant congressional seat of Ander Crenshaw, said the voters have spoken.

“It is very obvious as to where we are and that the voices of the people have been heard. As an individual, and even in my elected office, yes I am fully ready to embrace the candidacy of Donald Trump,” he said.

Although Ray can’t officially endorse Trump while serving as the Duval County GOP Chairman, he can throw his support behind him as a candidate for Congress.

“Under party rules, I am not allowed to endorse as the party chair until the nominee has been made,” he said.

At the kickoff for his congressional campaign, Ray laid out a platform similar to the real estate mogul’s, focusing on immigration, terrorism and trade.

But Ray faces an uphill battle for his party’s nomination in August. His opponent, former Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford, has endorsements from high-profile Republicans like Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry.
