On her way Thursday morning to meet with the Ron DeSantis gubernatorial campaign in Orlando, Republican strategist Susie Wiles said she was ready to dive in a day after the former North Florida congressman asked her to join.

The Democratic and Republican candidates for governor on Tuesday launched competing plans to improve Florida’s schools.

Racist robocalls targeting Andrew Gillum, a black Democrat gubernatorial nominee in Florida, went to residents throughout the state recently in an apparent attempt to influence voting.

The 39-year-old Tallahassee mayor and upset candidate is the first black nominee from a major party for Florida governor.

Gubernatorial candidates Andrew Gillum and Ron DeSantis will likely dominate the airways up until the November election, but there are other options, including Jacksonville’s own Darcy Richardson.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum won the Democratic nomination for Florida Governor by well over 40,000 votes, and about half of those votes were cast in Jacksonville.

Andrew Gillum was expected by many to be an also-ran in Florida's Democratic gubernatorial primary. Now, despite being heavily outspent by his better-known centrist rivals, the 39-year-old Tallahassee mayor is his party's nominee, and has already drawn attention from the Oval Office.

In addition, only hours into the general election, Gillum's Republican opponent is being criticized for making what some are calling racist remarks, telling Florida not to "monkey this up" by electing Gillum.
