First Coast Connect: Rutherford Says He Can Build Coalitions In Congress
District 4 Republican congressional candidate John Rutherford said one of the skills he learned during his 12 years as Jacksonville sheriff was how to work with others of different beliefs to get things accomplished.
Appearing on Wednesday’s “First Coast Connect,” Rutherford said his nine years as legislative chairman of the Florida Sheriffs Association gave him the experience he’ll need to get legislation passed that would benefit Northeast Florida.
“I have some very good legislative experience lobbying the Legislature and working bills, amending bills and, quite frankly, killing bills,” he said. “It’s all about relationships, and it’s knowing about the issues in your community.”
Rutherford defended his support of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump by saying Democrat Hillary Clinton would appoint Supreme Court Justices who would derail the Second Amendment.
