On Thursday’s First Coast Connect we looked at the looming Florida recounts in the races for Senator and Agriculture Commissioner. Since the show aired, the numbers have tightened in the race for Florida Governor, making a recount likely in that contest as well.
With Republicans winning the governor’s mansion and - depending on the recount outcome – another U.S. Senate seat, we also looked at where Florida’s Democratic Party goes from here.
Katie Ross and Stephanie Mickle, both of Mickle Public Affairs joined us with some thoughts.

Turning War Into Poetry
The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918 marked the cessation of the hostilities we now refer to as World War I.
Many people were moved to write poetry about the war, so much so that World War I poetry is a genre all its own.
Canadian writer and performer Jeff Bradley has long been moved by this poetry.
In commemoration of Veterans Day and the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, Bradley – who is now a Jacksonville resident - has created a work for theatre that features poetry and writings from soldiers and others touched by their experiences of World War I.
Bradley joined us with a preview of a dramatized writings event to commemorate WWI and the impact it has had.
It will be held Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. at BABS Lab in the CoRK Art District at King and Roselle streets.
Admission is free and donations are accepted with proceeds benefitting the Five Star Veterans Center.
Veterans Day Observance At Memorial Park
One of Sunday’s most moving Veterans Day observations will take place in Riverside at Memorial Park from 5 to 6:30 p.m. It will include a performance by the Jacksonville Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Memorial Park Association President Percy Rosenbloom III told us about what visitors will be able to expect.
