8/6/19: Former Mayor Jake Godbold; Protecting Our Coastlines; China Cat Sunflower Festival

Leadership Jax
Former Jacksonville Mayor Jake Godbold

Jake! Is a new biography that tells the story of one of this city’s most colorful and influential leaders.

Former Mayor Jake Godbold began his life during the Depression in Jacksonville public housing, and sold boiled peanuts on the streets as a kid. He used his outsized personality and passion to transform his city and has remained a force in the Jacksonville political landscape for 50 years.

Author and Political Strategist Mike Tolbert, who wrote Jake!, joined us for a closer look – along with Godbold himself, who joined us by phone to comment on the book as well giving us his take on current events in Jacksonville.

Protecting our coastlines

A new report has been released focusing on coastal conservation here in Florida. It points out the need to protect the state’s coastline and our oceans too. Jon Paul Brooker, Senior Manager & Policy Counsel for the Florida Conservation Ocean Conservancy, joined us for a closer look.

China Cat Sunflower Festival

The China Cat Sunflower Festival - a celebration of the life of Jerry Garcia - will take place this Saturday, at the Riverside Arts Market, aka RAM. Organizer Brenda Walker; and John Silveira, the manager of RAM, joined us with a preview.
