The St. Augustine City Commission decided to remove a monument honoring Confederate soldiers last month. On Sunday, dozens rallied in the Plaza de la Constitucion showing their opposition to that move.

Some are even petitioning the city’s government to reverse its decision.

St. Augustine Mayor Tracy Upchurch joined us with more on this, and other issuesimpacting the Nation’s Oldest City.

Calls to Drop the Word 'Plantation'

The Black Lives Matter movement is also sparking fresh discussion about the use of the word “plantation.”

There are a number of communities in our area with that name, including Julington Creek Plantation, Amelia Island Plantation, Oakleaf Plantation, and Fleming Island Plantation.

Tuesday night, the Community Development District for Fleming Island Plantation heard from residents who have proposed removing the word “plantation” from the community’s name. Brandye Mackey, an African Amerian business owner who lives in Fleming Island Plantation and spoke at the virtual meeting, joined us with more.

What’s Good Wednesdays

It’s Wednesday, so we took a look at What’s Good this week.

Local nonprofit Rethreaded has created a face mask that protects others, but still allows you to sip from a straw, workout, even play an instrument - all without needing to remove your mask. Kristin Keen, CEO of Rethreaded, joined us with the details.
