City Council; “Adaptation”; “The Korean Vegan Cookbook”; What’s Good Wednesday

Last night, the Jacksonville city council voted on three significant developments. One measure denied voters a chance to decide on a smaller council, and another changed how non-profits could get city money.

What’s good Wednesday

  • TheWomen’s Center of Jacksonville is joining forces with theLiteracy Alliance of Northeast Florida to address adult literacyin Jacksonville.
  • The Melanin Market is proud to present its 20th Market this Black Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. on the historic A. Philip Randolph Blvd. corridor. Curated by The Melanin Market, co-organizers Dawn Curling & Angie Nixon have partnered with LIFT-Jax, the Jacksonville Jaguars, PRI, the Jessie Dupont Fund and others to offer vendors and artists market showcasing more than 175 Black businesses, nonprofits and artists throughout northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia. There will be live entertainment, a kids’ zone, Black Santa and much more.
  • The City of Jacksonville will light up the St. Johns River with the annual Jacksonville Light Boat Parade this Saturday night. The parade will feature boat vessels of all sizes beginning at 6 p.m. and will wrap up with one of the best fireworks shows of the year, featuring “waterfalls” off the Main Street and Acosta Bridges. Spectators can view the parade from the North and Southbank Riverwalks, including Riverfront Plaza.
  • Kev Marcus and Wil Baptiste of the Grammy-winning duo Black Violin are fusing hip-hop and the classics by incorporating violin into their beats. On November 30, they willperform at the Florida Theatre.
