Food Delivery Apps; COVID-19 Recovery Story; JDRF One Walk; Jacksonville Music Experience

The restaurant industry has been hit particularly hardby the COVID-19 crisis, as they’ve shifted to takeout and delivery orders to try to stay in business.

Many people use food delivery apps like GrubHub, Postmates or DoorDash to get food delivered right to their door. But some restaurateurs say those apps are not actually helping local restaurants, claiming the apps are predatory and harming their business.

Tom Gray, Executive Chef and Owner of Prati Italia and Town Hall restaurants, and Sarah Marie Johnston, Marketing Director and Owner of Prati Italia and Town Hall, joined us for a closer look.

Dramatic Recovery

Many of us are mourning the loss of loved ones, friends and colleagues who’ve died from coronavirus. At the same time, some patients are making dramatic, if painful, recoveries. One of them is Jacksonville resident Tommy Shapard. Shapard is Minister of Music and Worship at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, and he’s also the Director of Choral and Vocal Activities at FSCJ.

He first started out with mild symptoms, and bounced around among several doctors and emergency rooms before finally being admitted to intensive care at Baptist Health South with COVID 19. He very nearly died and is only now on the mend.  He shared his story of hope and recovery with us.

JDRF One Walk

Across the First Coast, fundraising events that had been planned for this spring and summer, are now shifting to virtual events. One of them is the JDRF One Walk for juvenile diabetes. Meg Rose is Vice President, Field Operations, Firehouse Subs Corporation and the 2020 JDRF One Walk Corporate Chair.

Thursday is Public Media Radio Music Day and WJCT is launching a brand-new platform, the Jacksonville Music Experience (JME). JME, a new multi-platform collection of services, provides music fans in Northeast Florida and beyond with a variety of ways to enjoy their favorite artists and discover new genres on air, online, on demand and after the coronavirus crisis, in person. Station manager David Luckin joined us with more.
