Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan.

Our Friday media roundtable highlighted the top stories of the week in Northeast Florida. Joining us on air were David Bauerlein of the Florida Times-Union, outgoing City Councilwoman Randy DeFoor, AG Gancarski of Florida Politics and Jacksonville Today contributor and writer Shelton Hull.

Among the stories:

Inaugural events: Mayor-elect Donna Deegan will be sworn in tomorrow, with inaugural events kicking off today. As we all know Deegan will make history this weekend in becoming Jacksonville’s first female mayor.

Ben Frazier: Funeral arrangements for community activist Ben Frazier, who passed away Saturday, are now set. Frazier was a longtime broadcast journalist who became the first Black anchor of a major news show in Jacksonville. He was best known as an award-winning civil and human rights leader.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. July 8 All services will be held at The Bethel Church, 215 Bethel Baptist St. in Jacksonville.

Council Appointments: Incoming Jacksonville City Council President Ron Salem has selected his committees.

New superintendent: The NAACP took issue this week with the search for a new Duval Schools superintendent, saying one particular candidate might be first in line — without feedback from the community. The School Board is searching for a replacement for Superintendent Diana Greene, who retired after five years with the district. Her last day of work was June 2, with her retirement effective July 24.
